HOW TO LOCATE A WEB SITE ON YOUR 10 MOST WANTED LIST IF THE COMPANY HAS A FUNKY ADDRESS OR SPECIAL WAY OF SPELLING ITS NAME
Mood: Topic: BETTER SEARCHES It's not uncommon to be referred to a company who may have used a slight variation on a DBA (Doing Business As) thereby unintentionally confusing new customers in the process. For instance, let's assume a friend refers you over to "pricecheckah.com" yet you enter "pricechecker.com" into your Web browser (or you overhear a conversation about a "preferred-loans.com" but can't locate the Web site because you typed in "preferredloans.com") or some other honest mix-up that stopped you from finding Web sites on your 10 most wanted list. So often is the case, that you can still move forward in locating the Web site you're trying to find by going to telid.com. Telid.com is a free service that let's you find the official Web site of a business by typing in their number (if you know the number). Pretty cool huh! Did you enjoy this post? HOW TO ACCESS FILTERED OR BANNED WEB SITES VIA WEBMAIL SERVERS
Mood: Topic: BETTER SEARCHES
Too often we get separated from the very information we need--not because we're tone deaf to what is being said rather all too common the information being sought after is being filtered or banned. It's not unusual for certain types of content to be banned or filtered in some parts of the world, perhaps even on certain computers we use to access the Internet (such as the Library) and for good reason, however there may be legitimate reasons where you would need to get around Web filters in order to get just what you need. Webmail servers are pretty smart when it comes to circumventing these Web filters and allowing the information junkie in all of us to feed itself--you won't need to spend the next seven months or so trying to send and receive messages in a bottle. USING META-SEARCH ENGINES FOR A MORE ROBUST SEARCH
Mood: Topic: BETTER SEARCHES
Traditional search engines are the road maps of the internet--you can't achieve long term success without them. Search engines make our quest for information profitable by delivering searches more efficiently in less amount of time. Meta-search engines on the other hand, are engines which simultaneously scour other search engines when you attempt to cue up a search--as opposed to the conventional search engine which only retrieves results that are entered into their database. Here are 3 meta-search engines you may want to chart on a future information fetch:
