If you regularly work with spreadsheets and use these when you meet with your boss or client, I'm sure you know how frequent you have to work around problems and whenever you encounter some you get through these the best way you know how. Through meticulous control you can get around some, for other potential spreadsheet threats you can exploit some of Excel 2007's features. Excel 2007's Open command button features a menu which will allow you to open workbooks in different ways, so take advantage of each to the fullest:
- Open and Repair will repair a corrupted workbook and if this fails use the Extract data option which will pull whatever data it can salvage from a corrupted workbook and swap it over to a new file you can subsequently rename and save.
- Open Read-Only will allow you to view the selected workbook but will not allow you to make changes to the workbook.
- Open as Copy will create a copy of the selected workbook as a precaution so any mistakes in changes you may make will not affect the original workbook.
